Does anyone on this green earth really know how to cut onions without crying? I’ve tried the bread-in-the-mouth method, I’ve tried the cutting-only-a-certain-direction method, NOTHING WORKS!! And it’s not the crying that bothers me but when I can’t even open my eyes voluntarily and I’m wielding a large sharp knife-that’s what bugs me!! I made a delicious chicken-bacon-onion recipe tonight with a sweet pepper-onion-pasta side (notice the word ONION in both). I was a complete mess. WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME??? HELP!
For the love of Pete!!! HELP!

Brother is in Kindergarten and runs to class everyday because it's so fun! Sister reminds him every day "Don't get in trouble with the teacher!" on his way out the door.Princess
Sister is just as smart as her brother and quite independent. They love tricking mom and dad and making up funny names for things together.Honey
Our christmas lights were up and on for Halloween this year! YEAH! Do I have the best husband ever or what? Except for the white trash NASCAR blowup on my lawn HA!Sweety

I wear contacts and never have problems with tears. I also use my handy Pampered Chef chopper to get the job done ASAP. But if neither of those are an option for you, try this:

I bet your contacts block the crying! I did love the video so I’m trying it next. Thanks so m much Erin!
i’m not sure what “remedies” to help, but after I peel the first layer of skin I rinse it under water. it seems to cut it down a little. I have heard chewing gum works, but it didn’t really work for me. but you should try it! Oh, what wrap did you choose for your car? the baby one was my favorite. so cute and snuggly!! your work is beautiful alisha.
Thanks Kelli! I’ll try anything! I did put the little boy on. It’s been fun for people to call from it! 😉
have your hubby cut them for you.. haha that is what i do. even if i have to wait for an hour till he gets home. i refuse to cut them cuz i have that same stupid problem!
T-I tried that but he’s gone so much we’d never get to eat if I wait for him LOL
just a thought…I started buying the dehydrated onions and love not having to cut onions all the time!
That is a great idea!! Where did you get them?
Impressive Alisha! You are cooking!!
Maybe I could use you as a mentor and try to cook more too.
Now April, let’s not get carried away! LOL Remember that I consider TOAST cooking 😉 I am trying to do better. It’s just too expensive not too.
Ok, this made me think of a Japanese friend of mine!! We were at the market in Hawaii and she saw a cheap set of swimming goggles and got soooo excited, and bought them for her father. When I asked her why, she explained they were for him to cut onions in when he cooked. Her thinking was that the goggles would shield his eyes, (and give everyone else in the family one more silly story about dad…..) 🙂
DO THEY WORK?? I’LL TRY THEM!!!
Okay…..do none of you really cook? The trick is BREAD! You simply slip a piece of bread in you mouth and let it get all mushy on your tounge then cut away! Come on even Bobby Flay uses this trick! There is some big reason that I’ve heard before….but I learned it from my Grandma who could pretty much put any professional to same! (p.s. I use Ritz Crackers is does about the same thing)
Also, I love you Christmas Cards…super cute! And I disagree with you DH but I thought you’d have Christmas Music on your blog by now for sure. I did pull mine out this past week while making my pumpkin cake…..I’ll wait until Halloween is over and then convert to Christmas! Love ya Lady!
I tried the bread in the mouth and it doesn’t work!! I’m holding off on the music…but only a bit longer! 😉
I put them in the fridge, for some reason being cold really helps cut the fumes.
Ok so I’m sure you have got plenty of advice by the time I have gotten around to answering you…. But I put my onions in the freezer for a few min (about 10) before cutting. It seems to greatly lessen the effects of the onions. Plus I like to think it makes cutting them easier.
Although my kids miss my “crying” and dramatically telling them how much I love them while cutting onions! Good luck
